Lynn worked in the retail sector for 18 years with one employer. She found out the business was closing –leaving her unemployed. After taking a tour of the Annapolis Valley Work Centre, she chose Food Services because, “I love to cook and I love to eat!”
“When I first heard about PeopleWorx I thought it was for younger people, and that scared me a bit. But working at my last job for 18 years, I had gotten into a rut…it was just a job -a paycheck- and I needed something to make me feel alive again.”
“PeopleWorx is very supportive of you; they give you encouragement to obtain what you want and they believe in you. It’s not just your instructors but the whole group –from the director, counsellors, and instructors right down to your fellow participants.” Friendship has been one of the greatest gains for Lynn in her time at the Work Centre, and she and the others from her graduating class keep in touch.
Lynn graduated December 20th, 2013 from the Work Centre’s Food Service program and is now working for a personal healthcare program in the valley.
“My family is very proud of me, and I tell all my past co-workers about PeopleWorx, and how even before you start the program you have a support network here, ready for you.”
